MALAPPURAM: Perinthalmanna police have seized demonitized currency with face value of Rs 2.45 crore, and arrested six persons including a lawyer, on Thursday. Police have also seized arms including air pistols from the gang.
The arrested were Muhammed Anas, 39, Kannan Krishnakumar, 33, Muhammed Shan, 35, Maruthavila Achu, 26, Ansarudheen, 37, natives of Thiruvananthapuram and Thekkeyil Abdul Nasar, 29, native of Areekode in the district.

The currency notes hiding in two cars were seized during a special vehicle inspection conducted by the shadow police team led by DSP of Perinthalmanna M P Mohanachandran and Circle Inspector T S Binu. According to police the currency notes were brought to Perithalmanna to exchange with the support of agents in Areekode.
The fresh seizure of banned currency is sixth such incident occurred in the district recently. On September 11, Printhalmanna Police had seized banned currency notes valued at Rs 3.14 crore and arrested three persons. On August 9, the Perinthalmanna police had arrested three persons and seized demonitized currency valued around Rs 1.51 crore on Tuesday evening. On July 1, the Perinthalmanna police had arrested three persons and seized banned currency valued around Rs 1 crore.
In last week of June, Tirurangadi police seized demonitised currency notes having a face value of Rs 1 crore and arrested four persons in connection with the incident. The banned currency notes of Rs 1000 were seized during a vehicle inspection on National Highway 66 at Thalappara. In one of the biggest currency seizures in the state after the demonitisation came into effect in the country, Perinthalmanna police had seized banned currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 having a face value of Rs 3.22 crore, in first week of June.
